Cara Neir - Portals to a Better, Dead World

Every once in a while you need music that is cathartic. You need music that is an assault on the senses. You need music that will draw you in, make you sweat, and then spit you out. This is my first experience with Cara Neir. Cara Neir's new album Portals to a Better, Dead World exposes your deepest darkest demons. The album is relentless. The vocals menacing. The guitars a constant barrage. Portals doesn't pause to let you catch a breath. Sometimes you can't put into words what an album is truly like and Portals to a Better, Dead World is one of those albums. Cara Neir created something visceral. Portals to a Better, Dead World has to be experienced; felt. It's music that washes over you and creates colours and patterns and emotion. I suspect "Peridot", "Closing Doors", "Red Moon Foreboding", "Dust Collector", "Forlorn Love", "Exalting the Shadow Proprietor", and "3,380 Pounds" will touch something different in each listener. Cara Neir's Portals to a Better, Dead World is music for the enlightened or those who wish to be enlightened.

Garry Brents and Chris Francis are described as an "experimental black metal" band. They blend elements of speed metal, progressive metal, acid jazz, and black metal to create something that is beyond amazing. The sounds of Portals is an amalgam of Tool, System of a Down, and Mars Volta.

Portals to a Better, Dead World will be a vinyl release on October 31, 2013. 500 12" will be pressed with 100 on smoke green and the remaining 400 on black vinyl. Limited special packages featuring a bonus cassette and shirt can be purchased from Broken Limbs while supplies last.
